A PRACTICAL BEGINNING

A simple Bible study: read, notice, understand, respond

Four steps you can use with a chapter and a notebook.

Read

Read a complete paragraph or chapter slowly. If possible, read it again in another edition.

Notice

List people, repeated words, questions, commands and connections. Keep observations distinct from your conclusions.

Understand

Consider the speaker, original audience, literary setting and what comes before and after. Write down uncertainties and consult responsible sources.

Respond

Name a practical response and a prayer. A passage might call for gratitude, repentance, patience, action or further learning. The study workspace keeps these notes on your device.
